THE ARCHITECTURE OF ENCOUNTER
/artistic research/ work in progress
In the last few years, my artistic research and work has focused on architectural dimensions of nature. My desire has been to create spaces where a collective experience can take place, working with the natural materials that can be found on site. In my work, I am questioning traditional concepts of stage performances, gatherings - and especially the relationship between the observer and the artist. I want to focus increasingly on the design of a collective and participatory experience.
This path led me to my resent artistic research "The architecture of encounter". Within this theme, one field of enquiry are Nuragic architecture and monuments, their sacred temples and energy sites.
“The torus of light”: Nuragic era Sardinia (see pictures)
The "torus of light" is a phenomenon that occurs during the Winter Solstice, when the sun sits at a 9°angle in Sardinia. Due to the precise way a window is positioned in the building, at precisely the time of the solstice, for several minutes a beam of light passes through the nuraghe hall. It reaches the front wall where it illuminates the figure of a taurine head, the "bull of light," which materializes in this play of light and adds to its magic.exploring the question of how people can relate to each other and to their environment. I want to find out how I, as a scenographer, can react to places, how I can create spaces so that they enable engagement and promote knowledge. I want to search for a contemporary aesthetic that creates community.
I was able to develop and deepen this work in summer 2023 in Sardinia, fascinated and inspired by the ancient Nuragic architecture and monuments which are most likely the result of multiple intentions. They devised architectural solutions to track the movements of the stars, to calculate time, and to serve as ritualistic spaces in the sphere of the sacred. The nuraghe (the main type of ancient megalithic edifice found in Sardinia) are multifunctional monuments relating to key dimensions of this ancient culture.
As part of my exploration, I had the fortune to visit this sacred Temples/ well this summer. It is dedicated to the worship of water and was a place to receive an initiation into the verbally transmitted tradition of the ancient Sardinian healers.
This sacred well is a stunning place in its symbolism, geometry and architecture, built over a vein of spring water.
A Portal that opens by having the right key...so they say....
Thanks to Daniela and Parvati, for the magical time there, for having shared there knowledge with me about sacred places, Energy Network, archeoastronomy and for being my wise guides.
